Surveyor Foreman — Working Lead
About this role
We’re hiring a hands-on surveyor foreman to lead field surveying on construction projects across the country. This is a working lead role — you’ll run crews in the field, perform layouts and checks yourself, and keep survey data accurate and ready for project teams. Expect day-to-day travel between project sites, long hours outdoors, and direct coordination with project management and site crews. You’ll be the point person for site control, layout, and verifying grades and alignments to keep projects moving right the first time.
What you'll do
- • Lead and coordinate daily field survey activities and set priorities for a small crew
- • Perform layout, stakeout, measurements, and verification of grades, alignments, and control points
- • Operate and maintain survey instruments: total station, GNSS/GPS, digital level and data collectors
- • Check and QA survey data, prepare field notes, as-built measurements, and clear data transfer to office teams
- • Communicate site status, field findings, and layout requirements with project management and construction crews
- • Ensure crew follows site safety rules, completes required site-specific training, and keeps equipment organized and serviceable
What we're looking for
- • Proven experience leading field survey crews on civil construction projects
- • Skilled in land surveying, site layout and blueprint/technical drawing interpretation
- • Hands-on experience with total stations, GNSS/GPS systems, digital levels and data collectors
- • Ability to work outdoors in varied weather, travel between sites, and supervise a small crew
- • Strong communication skills to coordinate with project management and trades on-site
Qualifications
- • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel nationwide
- • OSHA 10-hour construction safety card or equivalent site safety training
- • Proficiency with total station and GNSS/GPS survey workflows
- • Ability to read and interpret civil/technical drawings and blueprints
- • Comfort lifting equipment and working on active construction sites
What we offer
- • Project travel with per diem and mileage reimbursement
- • PPE and basic field tools provided; tool allowance on many projects
- • Paid time off and holiday schedule
- • Health, dental and vision benefits available
- • Opportunities for training and advancement into senior field roles
