Surveyor (Journeyman / Party Chief) — Abilene, TX
About This Role
Seeking an experienced Surveyor (Journeyman, Party Chief, or Technician) based in Abilene, TX for a per diem role that requires travel across Texas. You’ll perform land and property surveys for construction and engineering projects, collect accurate field data, and work with crews and engineers to support site layout and staking. This is hands-on field work: operate GPS, total stations, lasers, levels and transit equipment, interpret drawings and blueprints, and produce reliable field notes and data. Ideal candidates have 3–5 years of field surveying experience, can work independently or as part of a crew, and are ready for frequent travel and overnight assignments.
What You'll Do
- • Perform land and property surveys, boundary retracements, and construction staking in the field.
- • Operate GPS, total stations, laser levels, transits and other survey equipment to collect accurate data.
- • Read and interpret civil drawings, technical/blueprint documents, aerial and archaeological survey data.
- • Process and verify field notes and data, produce clear as-built and survey records for engineers and managers.
- • Lay out sites and perform stakeout for construction work; communicate measurements and adjustments to crews.
- • Maintain equipment, follow safety procedures, and ensure accuracy and compliance on every job site.
What We're Looking For
- • 3–5 years of land/property surveying experience in the field (Journeyman, Party Chief, or Survey Technician).
- • Willingness to travel across Texas frequently (overnight travel expected); per diem position.
- • Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with GPS, total station, laser, level and transit equipment.
- • Skilled in drawing/blueprint interpretation, site layout, and technical/civil drawing reading.
- • Able to work independently and as part of a crew, communicate clearly, and maintain precise field records.
Qualifications
- • High school diploma or GED; vocational/survey training a plus.
- • Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle; clean driving record required for travel.
- • Ability to pass drug test and background check per client requirements.
- • Proficiency with GPS/Total Station software and field data collectors.
- • OSHA 10 or similar safety training preferred; LSIT/PLS or surveying certificates a plus.
- • Proficient in English (reading plans, writing field notes, communicating with crews).
