About this role
Join a field crew in Abilene, TX as a Surveyor supporting industrial and construction projects. You will assist the Party Chief with precise measurement, site layout, and data collection using both manual methods and electronic instruments. This is a per diem role that requires working outdoors in varied conditions, following site safety rules, and performing physical tasks such as carrying stakes, cutting brush, and working at heights or in confined spaces. You’ll need to be reliable, safety-minded, and able to follow direction from supervision.
What you'll do
- • Work under the Party Chief to lay out lines, elevations, points, and other construction controls
- • Operate and set up surveying instruments (total station, GPS, level) and maintain equipment
- • Perform manual surveying tasks: measuring with chains, using plumb bobs, carrying stakes, cutting brush, and marking elevations
- • Record and transfer field data accurately; assist with diagramming and plotting as directed
- • Inspect survey work for conformance to standards and report discrepancies to supervision
- • Estimate materials, time, and resources needed for survey tasks and assist in work planning
What we're looking for
- • Experience as a surveying technician/journeyman in industrial or power plant projects preferred
- • Hands-on proficiency with electronic total stations, GPS units, levels, and manual chains
- • Ability to read and interpret civil drawings, blueprints, and site layouts
- • Able to perform physical work outdoors in varied weather, climb ladders/scaffolds, and lift up to 50 lbs
- • Clear verbal and written communication to follow and pass instructions from supervision
- • Willingness to work per diem schedule with possible overtime, weekends, and travel to job site
Qualifications
- • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to jobsite
- • Able to pass pre-access drug and alcohol testing, fit-for-duty medical, and background check
- • Surveying certificate, associate degree, or equivalent field experience preferred
- • OSHA 10 (or equivalent site safety) preferred
- • Proficient in English for verbal and written site communication; own basic hand tools required
