Per Diem
Surveyor — Abilene, TX (Per Diem)
About This Role
Join our crew in Abilene as a per diem Surveyor assisting the Party Chief with precise layout and measurement for construction and industrial projects. You will use both manual tools (chains, plumb bob, stakes) and electronic instruments (total station, GPS) to gather site data, mark elevations, and help establish grades. This is hands-on field work in varied outdoor conditions — you’ll cut brush, carry stakes, set pins, and work at heights or in confined areas as needed. If you have industrial or power-plant survey experience, can read civil drawings, and follow written and verbal instructions on site, we want you on the team.
What You'll Do
- • Assist Party Chief with planning, diagramming and layout for survey and construction work.
- • Perform manual field tasks: cut brush, carry and set stakes/pins, mark elevations and delineate right-of-way.
- • Establish and verify elevations/grades; install or neatly mark elevations per directions.
- • Set up, operate and maintain electronic measuring equipment (total station, GPS) and manual tools (survey chains, plumb bob).
- • Inspect survey work for conformance to standards and report deficiencies to supervision.
- • Estimate sizes, distances, materials and time required for survey tasks and assist in resource planning.
What We're Looking For
- • Experience as a Surveying Journeyman or equivalent field survey experience — industrial or power plant experience preferred.
- • Proficient with electronic total stations, GPS units, survey chains, plumb bob and related layout tools.
- • Ability to read and interpret civil drawings, site plans and construction blueprints.
- • Strong verbal and written communication; follow and transmit written/oral instructions on site.
- • Physically able to work outdoors in variable weather, climb ladders/scaffolds, enter confined spaces and lift up to 50 lbs.
- • Available for per diem assignments with possible irregular hours, overtime, weekends and travel to site; able to pass pre-access drug/alcohol test and background check.
Qualifications
- • High school diploma or GED required; technical/surveying coursework a plus
- • Proven field experience as a Surveying Journeyman (industrial/power plant preferred)
- • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
- • Able to pass pre-access drug & alcohol testing, fit-for-duty medical and background check
- • Proficiency with total stations, GPS, survey chains and measurement tools
- • OSHA 10 or equivalent safety training preferred; comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces
What We Offer
- • Per diem position with competitive daily pay
- • Mileage or travel reimbursement when applicable
- • Overtime opportunities on most projects
- • Short-term and long-term industrial projects — steady work between assignments
- • Site safety orientation and access to required safety training
