Journeyman Carpenter

About this role

Join a multi-month mass timber renovation and addition at an elementary school in Washington, DC. We need journeyman-level carpenters who can read plans, layout and install wood framing, and work safely around heavy timber components. This is hands-on work on an active school site: expect framing, layout, cutting, fastenings, and close coordination with the crew. Bring a safety-first mindset and reliable trade skills—certifications and equipment experience are a plus.

What you'll do

• • Read and follow construction drawings and site layout for wood framing and mass timber connections
• • Measure, cut, assemble, and install wood and mass timber framing components to plan specifications
• • Operate power tools and hand tools safely and accurately (saws, nail guns, drills, etc.)
• • Assist with setting and securing mass timber panels and connections under crew supervision
• • Maintain a clean, organized work area and perform basic site cleanup at shift end
• • Follow site safety procedures, attend toolbox talks, and use required PPE

What we're looking for

• • Journeyman-level carpentry experience on commercial projects
• • Proven wood framing and general carpentry skills
• • Able to read and interpret construction drawings and layout marks
• • Comfortable operating common power tools and hand tools safely
• • Experience on commercial renovation or addition projects preferred
• • Reliable attendance, punctuality, and ability to work full shifts on site

Qualifications

• • Journeyman carpentry credential or equivalent work experience
• • Ability to read construction drawings and layout plans
• • OSHA 10 (preferred) or willingness to obtain site safety training
• • Certifications for equipment (scaffold, forklift, etc.) are a plus
• • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
• • English proficiency for safe on-site communication
