Concrete Formwork Carpenter

Norfolk, VA $22-$29/hr

About this role

Join a regional concrete crew in Norfolk, VA as a concrete formwork carpenter. You will build, install, strip and repair wood, plywood and steel forms for footings, walls, columns, decks and slab-on-grade work under a foreman’s supervision. This role focuses on commercial concrete form systems with hands-on training and a strong emphasis on jobsite safety. Expect local travel to Norfolk-area projects, regular safety training/certification opportunities, and direct support for pours and layout work.

What you'll do

  • Build, erect, strip and repair wood, plywood and steel concrete forms per construction documents
  • Install footing, wall, column, structural deck and slab-on-grade formwork
  • Assist with tilt-up and precast form prep and setting; perform building layout and stake work
  • Read and follow blueprints, shop drawings and layout points during setup and pours
  • Support concrete placement and finishing crew during pours; secure forms and install expansion joints
  • Maintain tools, equipment and PPE; follow site safety procedures and attend required training

What we're looking for

  • High school diploma or GED and at least 2 years of concrete formwork/carpentry experience
  • Proven ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints and layout plans
  • Hands-on experience with footing, wall, column, deck and slab-on-grade form systems
  • Skilled with hand and power tools, measuring tools, levels and basic layout instruments
  • Physically fit for heavy lifting, working at heights and outdoor conditions
  • Reliable transportation to Norfolk-area sites and ability to work a typical construction schedule

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 2+ years of concrete formwork or related carpentry experience
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • OSHA 10 (preferred) or willingness to obtain site safety training
  • Ability to pass background check and drug screen as required by client sites
