Technology Infrastructure Technician I
About this role
Join a hands-on Datacom crew in Montgomery, AL installing and supporting Division 27/28 low-voltage systems. This role focuses on building telecom closets, running cable pathways, terminating and testing copper and fiber, and supporting special systems like security, CCTV and AV. You will work on active construction sites and facilities with a small tech team and a supervisor. Expect physical work, travel between job sites, and a fast-paced schedule where attention to detail, safe work practices, and basic office tools (Excel, Word, SharePoint) are used daily.
What you'll do
- • Build out telecommunications closets and install cable management hardware (cable tray, j-hooks, ladder tray).
- • Install horizontal CAT6 station cable, backbone copper, single-mode and multi-mode fiber, and innerduct.
- • Terminate copper RJ45 outlets and fiber connectors (LC, SC) and perform fusion or mechanical splices.
- • Test and troubleshoot UTP, coax, and optical fiber using industry test equipment; document results.
- • Install and support special systems cable for security, CCTV, AV, and fire alarm as directed.
- • Work with supervisors to follow drawings, material lists, and site-specific safety procedures.
What we're looking for
- • 1-3 years industry experience in low-voltage or electrical installation on construction or service projects.
- • Proven ability to terminate and test copper and optical fiber; experience with fusion splicing preferred.
- • Able to read blueprints, drawings, and written instructions; basic Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, SharePoint).
- • Physically able to lift cable and equipment, climb ladders, and work in ceilings and telecom closets.
- • Valid driver's license and reliable travel to job sites; comfortable working in a mobile field environment.
Qualifications
- • BICSI Technician certification (required)
- • OSHA 10 or equivalent safety training; confined space certification preferred
- • Manufacturer fiber/cabling certifications preferred
- • Proficient English reading and comprehension for technical documents
- • Valid driver's license
