Datacom Technician III
About this role
Join a field crew in Montgomery, AL as a Datacom Technician III installing and supporting low-voltage Division 27/28 systems. You’ll work on structured cabling and fiber installs, build out telecom closets, install pathways and supports, terminate and splice copper and fiber, and support special systems like security, CCTV, AV and fire alarm. This is a hands-on, full-time field role. Expect to work primarily on-site Monday–Friday with occasional nights or weekends as project needs require. You’ll be part of a mobile crew, use common telecom test equipment daily, and be expected to keep high standards for neat, code-compliant terminations and documentation.
What you'll do
- • Build out telecommunications closets and install cable support systems (cable tray, J‑hooks, ladder rack).
- • Run and install horizontal Cat6/6A station cable, backbone copper, fiber optic cable and innerduct.
- • Terminate copper work-area outlets (RJ45/modular) and fiber connectors (LC, SC); perform mechanical and fusion splicing.
- • Perform copper and fiber testing and documentation using certifiers and OTDR/power meters; record results to project systems.
- • Install and cable special systems: access control, CCTV, AV, fire alarm as directed by scope.
- • Troubleshoot copper and fiber connectivity issues and coordinate repairs with supervisors and trades.
What we're looking for
- • 3+ years hands‑on experience installing low‑voltage/telecom systems (structured cabling, fiber, or related electrical work).
- • Able to read basic drawings, wiring schematics and follow installation instructions and punch lists.
- • Proficient with cable termination, splicing (mechanical or fusion), and fiber/copper testing equipment.
- • Comfortable working at heights, in telecom closets, and in varying jobsite conditions; able to lift and handle cable and equipment.
- • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for local travel to job sites.
- • Proficient with MS Office basics (Excel, Word) and able to document test results and job progress.
Qualifications
- • BICSI Technician certification (required)
- • OSHA 10 (or OSHA 30) preferred
- • Confined space awareness/entry certification preferred
- • Manufacturer fiber/cabling certifications (preferred)
- • Ability to pass background check and drug screen
- • English language proficiency for safe communication on-site
