Substation Technician

About this role

Experienced substation technicians wanted for upcoming projects across multiple U.S. locations. This role focuses on installation, maintenance, testing, and troubleshooting of high-voltage substation and distribution equipment with required travel to project sites. You’ll work with a crew to install and maintain electrical systems, follow site safety rules, and complete documentation. Candidates must have proven high-voltage/substation experience, strong communication skills, and a safety-first attitude. Willingness to travel and reliable attendance are mandatory.

What you'll do

• • Install, maintain, and repair substation and distribution electrical equipment (transformers, breakers, switchgear, protective relays).
• • Perform diagnostics and troubleshooting of electrical systems, interpret schematics, and isolate faults.
• • Execute commissioning, testing, and energization tasks per site procedures and test plans.
• • Follow and enforce site safety procedures, participate in pre-task planning, and use required PPE.
• • Travel to and work at multiple project locations; coordinate logistics with the crew and site leads.
• • Complete daily reports, equipment logs, and keep tools and equipment in working order.

What we're looking for

• • Proven high-voltage/substation experience working on installation, maintenance, or commissioning.
• • Comfortable working on electrical equipment and reading electrical schematics and single-line diagrams.
• • Strong troubleshooting skills for systems, breakers, relays, transformers, and distribution gear.
• • Clear verbal and written communication with crew members, site supervisors, and inspectors.
• • Safety-focused mindset with the ability to follow and enforce safety procedures and lockout/tagout.
• • Willingness to travel frequently and work varying schedules as required by project timelines.

Qualifications

• • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for travel between sites.
• • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 card (preferred or required depending on project).
• • High-voltage switching experience or equivalent certification/training.
• • First Aid/CPR and/or AED certification (preferred).
• • Ability to pass background screening and drug test as required by project sites.
