Heavy Equipment Mechanic
About This Role
Join a crew supporting a major tunnel project in Manchester, NH as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic. You’ll work on a fleet of heavy diesel equipment—cranes, excavators, loaders, forklifts—and keep machines running safely and on schedule. This is an hourly, nonexempt role with start pay at $51/hr DOE. You’ll perform diagnostics, preventative maintenance, and repairs in both above-ground and underground environments. The job is physically demanding and often noisy, wet, and dirty. You’ll work day shift and collaborate directly with engineers, equipment operators, and safety officers to maintain site productivity and safety.
What You'll Do
- • Perform diagnostics, preventative maintenance, and repairs on heavy diesel equipment (cranes, excavators, loaders, skid steers, forklifts, etc.).
- • Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic, electrical, fuel, powertrain, transmission, and engine systems.
- • Conduct DOT and company safety inspections; perform required preventive checks and services and maintain inspection logs.
- • Complete accurate maintenance records, work orders, and parts documentation.
- • Support equipment rigging, loading/unloading, and positioning; assist operators and foremen with equipment setup.
- • Follow lockout/tagout and other site safety protocols while working in above-ground and underground environments.
What We're Looking For
- • OSHA 10 certification (required).
- • 5+ years of heavy truck/diesel and heavy equipment maintenance experience, including hydraulic systems.
- • Hands-on ability to diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical faults and complete repairs in the field.
- • Comfort working in confined, underground spaces and in varied weather/temperature conditions; physically able to lift 40+ lbs.
- • Strong record-keeping skills and ability to read repair manuals, schematics, and technical drawings.
- • Valid CDL (Class A or B) may be required for some tasks; must be willing to obtain if needed.
Qualifications
- • OSHA 10 (required).
- • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL A/B) — preferred or able to obtain.
- • Completion of diesel or heavy equipment technician program or equivalent on-the-job experience (5+ years).
- • Able to pass pre-employment drug screen and background check.
- • Proficient in reading technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics; basic computer skills for maintenance logs.
- • English — ability to communicate clearly on the jobsite (other languages a plus).
