Heavy Equipment Mechanic
About this role
Join a major tunnel project in Manchester, NH as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic supporting a large fleet of diesel equipment. You'll perform diagnostics, preventative maintenance, and on-site repairs to keep cranes, excavators, loaders, forklifts and other heavy machines running safely and reliably. This is a hands-on role working above ground and underground in challenging conditions. You will collaborate directly with operators, engineers, and safety officers, follow DOT and site safety procedures, and keep clear maintenance records. Day shift work; physically demanding and requires strong troubleshooting skills.
What you'll do
- • Perform diagnostics, preventative maintenance, and repairs on heavy diesel equipment—cranes, excavators, loaders, forklifts, skid steers, etc.
- • Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic, electrical, engine, transmission and powertrain systems; replace parts and adjust controls as needed.
- • Conduct DOT and site safety inspections; complete and maintain accurate maintenance logs, inspection reports, and repair documentation.
- • Respond to equipment breakdowns and perform emergency on-site repairs to minimize project downtime.
- • Work in above-ground and underground environments; support equipment setup, mobilization, and operator troubleshooting while following site safety rules.
- • Maintain parts inventory, order supplies, keep tools organized, and communicate repair status to foreman and operations staff.
What we're looking for
- • OSHA 10 certification (required).
- • 5+ years of heavy equipment/diesel maintenance experience with hands-on hydraulic system work.
- • Strong diagnostic skills for hydraulic, electrical, mechanical, engine and transmission systems.
- • Experience performing DOT and company safety inspections and maintaining accurate records.
- • Ability to work in confined and underground spaces, lift 40+ lbs, and perform physically demanding tasks in varied weather and conditions.
- • Valid driver’s license; CDL preferred or required for certain equipment operations.
Qualifications

- • 5+ years heavy equipment/diesel mechanic experience (required).
- • Valid driver’s license; CDL preferred or required for some roles.
- • Diesel mechanic or heavy equipment certification preferred (ASE, vocational training, or equivalent).
- • Ability to read repair manuals, technical drawings and follow schematics.
- • Ability to pass pre-employment drug screen and background check.
