Civil Power Equipment Operator Foreman
About this role
We are hiring a hands-on Civil Power Equipment Operator Foreman based in Indianapolis, IN. You will supervise and operate heavy equipment on civil power jobs, run crews in the field, and make sure work is completed safely, on time, and to quality standards. This is a per diem position that requires travel to project sites as needed. Expect multi-week assignments away from home; per diem covers meals/incidental expenses. Strong leadership, equipment expertise (loader, dozer, excavator, backhoe, paving), and a focus on safety and maintenance are required.
What you'll do
- • Operate and supervise operation of heavy equipment (loaders, dozers, excavators, backhoes, paving equipment) on civil power construction sites
- • Lead, train and direct crew members daily; develop work schedules and assign tasks to meet project milestones
- • Enforce site safety procedures, conduct toolbox talks, and ensure compliance with site-specific safety rules
- • Perform routine equipment inspections, basic maintenance and coordinate repairs to keep machines mission-ready
- • Set layout points, verify grades and elevations, and check work against drawings and project specifications
- • Monitor work quality and schedule progress; communicate daily with project supervision to resolve issues
What we're looking for
- • Proven experience as an equipment operator foreman on civil construction projects, preferably power-related work
- • Skilled operating loader, dozer, excavator, backhoe and paving equipment with the ability to switch between machines
- • Strong leadership and crew-management skills; able to train, mentor and hold crews accountable
- • Experience with basic heavy equipment maintenance and pre-shift inspections
- • Ability to read site plans, perform site layout checks and use survey/grade tools
- • Willingness to travel and accept per diem assignments; able to work extended hours when project demands require
Qualifications
- • Valid driver's license with a good driving record
- • Equipment operator certification or documented heavy-equipment experience
- • OSHA 10-hour (preferred) or equivalent safety training
- • Ability to pass drug/alcohol screening and background checks
- • Comfortable working in varied weather and on job sites away from home
- • English required; Spanish or other language skills a plus
