Heavy Equipment Operator

Fletcher, NC $22-$25/hr

About this role

We’re hiring a hands-on Heavy Equipment Operator to join a busy construction site in Fletcher, NC. You’ll run excavators, dozers, loaders and assist with crane signaling to support excavation, concrete formwork, site layout and framing crews. This is field work — heavy lifting, precise grade work and teamwork on commercial construction sites. You’ll work day-to-day with foremen and carpentry crews to set grades, dig trenches, form concrete, move materials and prepare sites for framing and finishes. Strong safety habits, the ability to read plans and reliable attendance are must-haves. Site-specific training and certifications are available to help you grow into lead operator or foreman roles.

What you'll do

  • Operate excavators, dozers, loaders and other heavy equipment for digging, grading, trenching and material handling.
  • Perform crane signaling and assist rigging crews during lifts and material setting operations.
  • Set up and confirm site layout, stakes and grade control from plans and basic survey marks.
  • Build and support concrete formwork, place/compact concrete and install column forms and expansion joints as required.
  • Coordinate with carpentry crews on framing support (in-wall blocking, stair framing, floor/roof framing) and help with cabinet/window/door setouts when needed.
  • Inspect completed work, maintain equipment, report issues and follow site safety and lockout/tagout procedures.

What we're looking for

  • Proven experience operating excavators, dozers, loaders and performing crane signaling on commercial construction sites.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, measure and cut accurately, and carry out site layout and grade control.
  • Hands-on experience with excavation/trench work, concrete formwork, concrete column forms and expansion joint prep.
  • Familiarity with general framing tasks (wood and metal), in-wall blocking, door/window setouts and light finish support.
  • Competence with scaffolding systems, work inspection, basic crew training and time/material job tracking.
  • Reliable attendance, strong communication on-site, and a commitment to follow safety procedures every shift.

Qualifications

  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Construction safety training (10- or 30-hour card or equivalent) preferred
  • Crane signaling/rigger certification and forklift/telehandler certification preferred
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug screen and background check
  • High school diploma or equivalent; English fluency required, Spanish a plus

What we offer

  • Health, dental and vision insurance options
  • 401(k) retirement plan with employer contribution
  • Paid time off, holidays and overtime opportunities
  • Tool allowance or company-provided basic PPE and equipment
  • Site-specific safety training and paid certification assistance
