Heavy Equipment Operator

About This Role

Join a Smyrna, GA crew operating excavators, dozers, backhoes, skid steers, motor graders and vibratory compactors on earthmoving, grading and paving jobs. This hands-on role puts you in the seat performing site prep, moving material, and finishing surfaces on commercial and civil projects. You’ll be expected to run multiple machines, perform basic maintenance and inspections, follow strict safety rules, and work in a drug-free environment. Pay is up to $33/hr depending on experience and equipment qualifications.

What You'll Do

• • Operate excavators, dozers, backhoes, skid steers, motor graders and vibratory compactors for earthmoving, grading and paving tasks
• • Set up, grade and finish surfaces for roads, pads and structures; read basic grade stakes and follow site plans
• • Perform pre- and post-shift equipment inspections, report issues and complete basic maintenance/repairs as needed
• • Load/unload equipment, assist crew with material handling and spot for machines when required
• • Follow all safety procedures, maintain clean work areas, complete required paperwork and comply with a drug-free workplace policy

What We're Looking For

• • Proven experience operating multiple types of heavy equipment (excavator, dozer, grader, backhoe, skid steer) on construction sites
• • Ability to perform basic equipment maintenance and troubleshoot common issues
• • Strong understanding of grading, compaction and earthmoving practices; read grade stakes and follow plans
• • Physically fit for climbing on equipment, lifting, and working outdoors in all weather
• • Willingness to pass pre-employment drug screen and follow all safety rules and site protocols

Qualifications

• • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record required
• • Ability to pass drug test and background check
• • Equipment operator certifications (NCCER, manufacturer or trade school) preferred but not required
• • OSHA 10 or equivalent safety training preferred
• • High school diploma or GED preferred; ability to read basic plans and grade stakes
