Heavy Equipment Operator (Excavator Operator)
About This Role
Experienced heavy equipment operators needed in Orlando, FL to run excavators, dozers, skid steers, loaders and related gear on concrete construction sites. Work under a foreman’s direction to handle layout, fine grading, trenching, pit excavations, backfill/compaction and hoisting while keeping equipment safe and productive. This is hands-on field work. You’ll plan spoil placement and truck needs for continuous production, run rotating and slope lasers for grade control, follow OSHA excavation standards, assist with basic equipment upkeep, and work with a crew to hit schedule and quality targets. Steady assignments and opportunities to grow your skills on concrete projects.
What You'll Do
- • Operate excavators, dozers, skid steers, loaders and other heavy equipment on concrete construction sites
- • Set up and use rotating and slope lasers to establish and maintain finish grades
- • Perform trenching and pit excavations while following OSHA benching and sloping requirements
- • Plan spoil placement, coordinate truck flow and select equipment to keep production moving
- • Execute backfilling and compaction in lifts and assist with hoisting and finishing applications
- • Perform routine equipment inspections, basic maintenance and report defects
What We're Looking For
- • Minimum 3 years operating heavy equipment (excavator experience required)
- • Ability to read grade stakes, site layout, and basic civil drawings
- • Comfort working at heights and in varied weather; able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical labor
- • Familiarity with rotating lasers, slope lasers, GPS rover use and grade control methods
- • Knowledge of OSHA excavation safety (benching/sloping) and safe site practices
Qualifications
- • High school diploma or GED
- • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
- • OSHA 10-hour construction card (preferred)
- • CDL Class A or B (preferred but not required)
- • Equipment operator certification (NCCER or equivalent) preferred
- • Ability to read and communicate in English on the job site
