Heavy Equipment Operator (Pile Driving)

About this role

Join the crew running pile driving operations for the Virginia Creeper Trails project in Damascus, VA. This is a hands-on heavy-equipment role focused on foundation and structural work along the trail — ideal for operators experienced with pile driving equipment on civil or trail-related projects. Work is outdoors and weather-exposed. You’ll coordinate with site supervisors and crew, perform equipment setup and inspections, and keep work moving safely and efficiently on a project with clear daily objectives.

What you'll do

  • Operate pile driving and associated heavy equipment safely and efficiently on the trail project
  • Set up, position, and align pile driving rigs and accessories per drawings and site instructions
  • Perform pre-start inspections, routine maintenance, and basic troubleshooting of equipment
  • Support foundation and concrete activities tied to pile work; coordinate with concrete and excavation crews
  • Read and follow site plans, stakeouts, and supervisor directions; maintain daily logs and equipment reports
  • Follow site safety procedures, flagging, and traffic control; keep work area clean and organized

What we're looking for

  • Proven pile driving experience on civil, bridge, or trail projects
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and stakeout marks
  • Experience operating dozers, excavators, rollers and other earthmoving equipment
  • Hands-on experience with general concrete and excavation/trench work
  • Strong focus on safety, communication with supervisors and crew, and following site procedures

Qualifications

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to Damascus, VA
  • OSHA 10-hour construction safety card or equivalent preferred
  • Certifications or documented training for heavy equipment operation (dozer, excavator, roller) preferred
  • Able to pass drug screen and background check
  • Comfortable working outdoors in variable weather and lifting/standing for extended periods
