HVAC Technician II
About this role
Work at LAX Airport as an HVAC Technician II performing installation, maintenance and troubleshooting on commercial HVAC systems in a high-traffic airport environment. This hands-on role focuses on electrical and control system troubleshooting, motor and starter replacement, equipment start-ups and preventive maintenance. You will work varied shifts (including nights, weekends and holidays), follow federal, state and local codes, and support building systems such as automatic transfer switches, UPS/battery storage, emergency generators and photovoltaic systems. The role includes training and mentoring less-experienced technicians and recommending improvements to methods, tools and safety practices.
What you'll do
- • Install, wire and commission commercial HVAC equipment; make new wiring hook-ups and upgrade existing systems as needed.
- • Troubleshoot HVAC controls and power electrical systems using ladder logic, diagrams and schematics.
- • Remove and replace motors, starters, relays, limit switches, fuses and primary control components.
- • Perform preventive maintenance, inspections and repairs on HVAC systems and related building systems (ATS, UPS, generators, PV).
- • Assemble, inspect, adjust and repair faulty parts and wiring on electrical and electronic devices.
- • Train and mentor junior technicians; contribute recommendations to improve work methods, safety and tooling.
What we're looking for
- • Intermediate-level electrical troubleshooting of control circuits, motor circuits and power systems.
- • Able to read and interpret HVAC drawings, schematics and ladder logic.
- • Experience with commercial/industrial HVAC control circuits, motor maintenance and starter work.
- • Capable of performing equipment start-up, testing and preventive maintenance inspections.
- • Must be available for varying shifts including nights, weekends and holidays; able to pass background checks and obtain airport access badge.
- • Clear English communication for work coordination and safety compliance.
Qualifications
- • EPA 608 certification (Type II/Universal) or equivalent for refrigerant handling
- • Trade school diploma, HVAC technical certificate, or equivalent on-the-job experience
- • OSHA 10 (or higher) preferred
- • Proven experience with commercial HVAC systems (motors, starters, controls)
- • Valid driver's license and ability to meet airport security/background screening requirements
- • Fluent English for reading schematics, completing reports and communicating with crew
