Class A CDL Truck Driver
About this role
We need an experienced Class A CDL driver based in Richmond, VA to haul asphalt and transport heavy equipment. This role focuses on safe loading, secure chaining, hauling asphalt in dump trucks, and following DOT and site safety standards. You should have at least five years of hands-on experience loading, unloading and securing equipment, operating dump trucks on asphalt jobs, and keeping accurate DOT logs. Work is primarily local and short regional runs; early starts and occasional overtime may be required depending on job schedules.
What you'll do
- • Operate Class A CDL vehicles safely and efficiently for local and short regional runs.
- • Load, unload and chain down heavy equipment securely on flatbeds or trailers.
- • Drive dump trucks hauling asphalt, including proper handling of hot loads and materials.
- • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections, report defects, and complete DOT-required paperwork and logs.
- • Follow site safety plans, DOT regulations and company procedures; communicate with crew and supervisors about load handling and routing.
What we're looking for
- • Minimum 5 years’ experience hauling equipment and asphalt, including dump truck operation.
- • Proven skill loading, unloading and securely chaining down trailers and heavy equipment.
- • Experience operating flatbeds, water trucks, tack trucks, transfer/milling machines and forklifts.
- • Strong knowledge of DOT rules, hours-of-service, and maintaining accurate logbooks or ELD entries.
- • Able to perform routine vehicle checks, basic maintenance (fueling, greasing) and report mechanical issues.
- • Willingness to work early starts and occasional overtime to meet project schedules.
Qualifications
- • Valid CDL-A (required)
- • Current DOT medical card and ability to pass DOT drug screen
- • Clean driving record (MVR) with acceptable safety history
- • HazMat, tanker or air-brake endorsements preferred where applicable
- • Forklift certification preferred; able to read and complete load paperwork
