TIG Welder — 5G Pipe (Walker, LA)
About This Role
Experienced TIG welder needed in Walker, LA to weld 2” schedule 80 pipe in the 5G position. This role requires producing welds that meet visual inspection and x‑ray standards while working safely and with minimal supervision. Expect hands-on pipe prep, TIG setup, welding in multiple positions, and finishing work. You will work from welding instructions and drawings, follow specified amperage/voltage settings, and participate in safety meetings and JSAs. This is a physically demanding role — you must be able to handle standing, bending, and lifting while maintaining high-quality welds under inspection standards.
What You'll Do
- • Perform TIG (GTAW) welding on 2” schedule 80 pipe in 5G and other positions to meet visual and x‑ray inspection standards
- • Set up welding equipment, select electrodes/filler, and adjust amperage/voltage per welding instructions or Welding Engineer settings
- • Clean, prep, tack, position pipe; chip, grind, and finish welds; preheat work pieces when required
- • Read and follow drawings, welding symbols, and welding procedure specifications; record weld parameters as required
- • Follow all safety procedures, use required PPE, attend safety meetings/JSAs, and report unsafe conditions
- • Work with minimal supervision to complete assigned welds and pass required qualification tests
What We're Looking For
- • Proven experience TIG/GTAW welding pipe, specifically 2” schedule 80 in 5G
- • Ability to produce welds that pass both visual inspection and x‑ray
- • Comfortable welding in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions and meeting production targets
- • Skilled at setting up and troubleshooting welding equipment and accessories
- • Able to read welding symbols, basic blueprints, and follow written welding procedures
- • Reliable, safety-minded, and able to work with minimal supervision
Qualifications
- • Must pass on-site TIG 2” schedule 80 5G qualification test (visual inspection and x‑ray required)
- • GTAW/TIG certification preferred (AWS or equivalent) or documented pipe welding experience
- • AWS/API/TC welding certifications a plus
- • OSHA 10 or 30 preferred
- • Ability to read blueprints/welding symbols and perform basic welding math
- • Valid driver’s license preferred; English reading and communication skills required
