TIG Unlimited Welder
About This Role
TIG Unlimited Welder needed in Walker, LA for project work on pipe and general welding assignments. This is hands-on work — you’ll TIG 2.5" double-heavy pipe in the 6G position to x-ray quality, set up your equipment, and run welds in all positions with minimal supervision. Base pay starts at $30/hr with pay increases up to $37/hr for qualified combo welders. You must pass a stringent on-site weld test (all TIG welds must pass visual inspection and x-ray). Work is project-based with day and night shifts available (10% night differential). Benefits eligibility begins within the first 30 days; this role does not include per diem.
What You'll Do
- • Perform TIG welds on 2.5" double-heavy (552 wall) pipe in the 6G position to x-ray quality
- • Set up welding equipment, choose electrodes/consumables, and adjust amperage/voltage per welding engineer specs
- • Weld in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions; tack, fit, and assemble joints as required
- • Prepare parts: clean, grind, chip, preheat, and cut metal components; repair and fill cracks or defects
- • Remove slag/spatter, perform basic finishing and grinding to prepare welds for inspection and x-ray
- • Follow all safety rules, use required PPE, attend safety meetings, and participate in job hazard analyses and pre-job briefings
What We're Looking For
- • Ability to pass on-site weld test: TIG all the way out on 2.5" double-heavy pipe (6G) with x-ray quality welds
- • Proven experience TIG welding pipe and performing welding in multiple positions to code standards
- • Skilled at setting up welding equipment, selecting electrodes/consumables, and dialing proper amperage/voltage
- • Ability to read basic drawings and welding instructions and follow welding engineer specifications
- • Physically able to stand, bend, lift, and work in confined or elevated positions for extended periods
- • Work independently with minimal supervision, follow safe work practices, and report unsafe conditions
Qualifications
- • 6G welding certification and demonstrated ability to produce x-ray quality TIG welds
- • High school diploma or GED preferred or equivalent welding experience
- • Familiarity with SMAW, FCAW, GTAW (GTAW/TIG preferred), plasma cutting, and general fabrication
- • Must be able to communicate in English; Spanish-speaking ability is a plus
