Welding Engineer
About this role
Welding Engineer needed on-site in Walker, LA to provide hands-on welding technical support, quality oversight, and continuous improvement for a fabrication/manufacturing operation. You’ll work at the weld line with Production and Quality to make sure work meets ASME, customer, and company requirements. This role focuses on ASME Section IX and B31.3 compliance, developing and maintaining welding procedures, troubleshooting welding and fabrication issues, and coaching welders and production staff. Expect a practical, hands-on role supporting production, quality, and operations every day.
What you'll do
- • Interpret and apply ASME Section IX and B31.3 for welding procedure and welder qualifications and verify compliance on the floor.
- • Develop, review, implement, and maintain welding procedure specifications (WPS) and qualification records (PQR/WPQ).
- • Monitor welding operations for quality and process compliance, perform weld inspections, and document nonconformances.
- • Troubleshoot welding and fabrication issues; work with Quality and Operations to define and implement corrective actions.
- • Provide clear, practical technical guidance and training to welders, supervisors, and production staff on welding parameters, joint fit-up, and procedure requirements.
- • Review welding documentation and records for accuracy, support customer/spec reviews, and recommend process improvements to increase consistency and reduce rework.
What we're looking for
- • Bachelor’s degree in Welding, Materials, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent hands-on welding engineering experience.
- • Strong working knowledge and practical application of ASME Section IX and B31.3 for WPS/PQR and welder qualifications.
- • Hands-on experience with GTAW, GMAW, FCAW and familiarity with SAW and SMAW processes in a fabrication environment.
- • Proven ability to read and interpret drawings, welding symbols, and technical specifications; strong attention to detail.
- • Experience evaluating welding quality, performing inspections, and supporting corrective actions with Quality and Operations.
- • Clear communication skills to relay technical welding requirements to welders, engineers, and management; comfortable on the shop floor.
Qualifications
- • Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering, Materials, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience; relevant experience may substitute.
- • Working knowledge of ASME Section IX and ASME B31.3 required.
- • AWS certifications (CWI, Certified Welding Engineer) or Welding Engineer certification preferred.
- • Experience with WPS/PQR and welder performance qualifications (WPQ) and record keeping.
- • Ability to read blueprints and welding symbols; strong math and analytical skills.
- • Valid driver’s license and ability to work in a manufacturing/fabrication environment; English required.
