Shop Tacker (TIG Welder)

Walker, LA $29-$38/hr

About this role

Join a busy shop in Walker, LA as a Shop Tacker using the TIG process to join pipe and metal components to strict visual and x‑ray quality standards. You’ll work on 2" schedule 80 pipe in 5G and other positions, set up welding equipment to engineering specs, and finish welds to code-quality standards. This is a physically demanding, full‑time shop role that requires attention to detail, safe work habits, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. You will take part in safety meetings and job hazard analyses and be expected to meet established welding procedures and inspection criteria.

What you'll do

  • Perform TIG welding on 2" schedule 80 pipe in 5G and other positions (flat, horizontal, vertical, overhead) to visual and x‑ray standards
  • Set up welding machines and accessories; select electrodes/consumables and adjust amperage, voltage, slope, and pulse per engineering specs
  • Prepare, tack, weld, and repair metal parts — cleaning, preheating, cutting, grooving, and post‑weld finishing to code quality
  • Operate grinders, wire brushes, torches, and power tools to clean, chip, and finish welds; remove slag and spatter
  • Follow safe work practices: use required PPE, participate in safety briefings, and report unsafe conditions
  • Work from drawings and welding procedures, position and clamp workpieces, and maintain simple records of work performed

What we're looking for

  • Proven experience welding pipe using TIG — specifically on 2" schedule 80 in multiple positions (5G experience required)
  • Ability to set up and fine‑tune welding equipment and troubleshoot basic welding system issues
  • Read and interpret drawings, welding procedures, and weld symbols
  • Hands‑on experience with SMAW, oxyfuel cutting, plasma arc cutting, air carbon arc cutting, and general welding practices
  • Physically able to stand, bend, lift, and work in confined positions for extended periods; comfortable working in a shop environment
  • Strong attention to visual quality and dimensional tolerances; able to follow pre‑established guidelines and work with minimal supervision

Qualifications

  • 6G welding certification required
  • Must pass on‑site Tacker Test: TIG 2" schedule 80 in 5G with visual inspection and x‑ray acceptance
  • Ability to read and understand welding procedures and engineering specs
  • Familiarity with tank welding and inspection requirements
  • Proficient in reading drawings and performing basic weld documentation
  • English: able to read, write, and follow safety instructions

What we offer

  • Medical, dental, and vision options available
  • 401(k) plan
  • Paid time off and holiday pay policy
  • Overtime opportunities available in a shop setting
  • Company‑provided PPE and site‑specific safety training
  • Support for job‑related training and certification renewals
