Shop Combination Welder
About this role
Join a busy shop in Walker, LA as a Shop Combination Welder working on multi-process pipe fabrication. This hands-on role requires a candidate who can certify across TIG, MIG and Fluxcore (FCAW) and who has proven Tier 1 pipe fabrication shop experience. You’ll work independently in a shop environment, performing pipe welding, metal prep and repair work while following safe work practices. Candidates must pass an on-site weld test (6G) to qualify — no per diem is offered for this position.
What you'll do
- • Perform TIG, MIG (GMAW) and Fluxcore (FCAW) pipe welding in 6G position to meet welding engineer specifications
- • Prepare and fit pipe, metal plates and assemblies; tack, clamp and position work in jigs/fixtures
- • Set welding parameters, connect leads, thread wire, and control arc length for specified weld quality
- • Clean joints, remove slag/spatter, preheat when required, and finish welds to visual and dimensional standards
- • Repair broken or cracked parts, fill holes, and perform grinding, chipping, and metal prep as needed
- • Work to site safety rules, use required PPE, attend safety briefings, and report unsafe conditions
What we're looking for
- • Minimum Tier 1 pipe fabrication shop experience required
- • Ability to successfully pass on-site 6G weld test for TIG, MIG and Fluxcore (visual, x‑ray and bend tests per test matrix)
- • Proficient in GTAW (TIG), GMAW (MIG) and FCAW processes and welding shop best practices
- • Able to read and interpret welding prints, fit-up drawings, and welding procedure specifications
- • Work independently with minimal supervision and follow welding engineer instructions and pre-established guidelines
- • Commitment to company safety rules and use of required personal protective equipment
Qualifications
- • 6G welding competency across TIG, MIG and FCAW (must pass on-site 6G test)
- • Radiographic Testing (RT) certification
- • Proven Tier 1 pipe fabrication shop experience
- • Ability to read welding procedures and ASME/AWS-style weld symbols and drawings
