Expand Search Query Feature

With the labor shortage in the skilled trades a very real challenge for construction recruiters, sometimes outside the box thinking can be the difference between hiring a good candidate and coming up empty. If there are not enough candidates in the immediate geographic area that you need workers, consider expanding your search with Skillit’s “Expanded Results” option to add workers to your pipeline that do not fall in the traditional location or primary trade as the job posted. Here is a breakdown of the different “Expanded Results” options.

  1. Non-Trade Matches: This expanded results option pulls in candidates that possess the skills that match the job that you are hiring for, but the work might not be their primary trade. For example, if you need more candidates for a concrete worker and click on the “Non-Trade Matches” option, you will see workers added to the search that are not concrete workers as a primary trade, but have the skills to do concrete work and generally have some past experience in the trade.

  2. Willing to relocate: These are workers that do not live in the geographic location that you are hiring the position in, but are willing to move to that location for a position. These workers could possess all of the skills and experience you need, but they do not live in the right location. They have stated on their profile that they are willing to relocate if the right position is available.

  3. Per Diem: This is similar to “Willing to Relocate”, but on a more job by job basis. Per Diem workers or road warriors are willing to move to a location temporarily to work on a job. Generally per diem workers are paid a daily allowance for housing and food on top of their normal wages and will work and live in the location of your job site until the job is completed or beyond.

New profiles will be labeled by the expanded search options selected.

With the labor shortage causing delays and hiring challenges nationwide, looking for candidates that may need to relocate - permanently or temporarily - or workers that have experience in the trade you are hiring for but it may not be their primary trade may be necessary to fill all the positions needed for a job. Using these “Expanded Results” will provide more qualified candidates in your pipeline and help you locate the right talent for your position.
