Responsibilities

  • Most construction pipefitter, plumber pipefitter or other skilled pipefitter jobs involve the following tasks:

    • Lay out, assemble and service pipe systems, pipe supports and other industrial production systems. 

    • Interpret blueprints and diagrams, design of pipe systems, welding, and brazing. 

    • Assemble and secure pipes to walls, frames, or fittings, such as tanks and radiators with brackets, clamps, welding equipment or tools. 

    • Join and secure pipes, tubes, fittings, and accessories in place by welding, brazing, cementing, soldering and threading joint fixtures. 

    • Inspect, examine and test installed pipelines and systems by utilizing pressure gauges, hydrostatic tests or other means. Determine necessary materials and measures to complete the task/procedure.

    • Conduct detailed inspections to verify whether systems are working properly and comply with safety standards.

    • Some pipefitter jobs may require laying out full-scale diagrams of pipe systems, supports and accessories from blueprints. 

    • Plan pipe system layout and installation according to specifications - including the choice of suitable pipe sizes, types and materials like supports, hangers, and hydraulic cylinders. 

    • Alter, clean and service pipe systems, fittings, and accessories with hand and power tools. 

    • Turn valves to shut off water, gases or steam from pipe sections when required. 

    • Replace and remove worn-out parts to ensure proper functioning of the pipe systems. 

    • Field duties may involve indoor and outdoor work as well as physical labor around machinery.

    • Assist in installation of automatic controls for efficient and safe functioning of pipe systems. 

    • Troubleshoot issues and give effective solutions in a timely and accurate manner. 

    • Cooperate well with fellow crew members, supervisors and client staff and follow company policy to ensure projects are completed successfully. 

    • Work in construction sites around high noise levels.

    • Carry out tasks in compliance with strict safety and environmental standards.

Qualifications

For Concrete Worker Positions:

Ideal candidates for the pipefitter jobs should have:

  • Previous experience as a pipefitter. The more experience, the higher the demand.

  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings.

  • Detailed understanding of various types of pipes, pipe materials and fittings.

  • Ability to weld and fabricate with precision.

  • Strong observation or vision to conduct inspections, with or without reasonable accommodations.

  • Physical dexterity to perform field tasks.

  • Ability to move within settings like refineries or plant facilities, including the capacity to access upper platforms through ladders or stairwells.

  • Capacity to stay focused and multitask in rapid-paced environments.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with clarity in various noise levels.

  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate with team members and supervisors, ensuring seamless project execution.

  • Pipefitters must be able to wear the necessary safety equipment as required by the safety department. This includes personal protective gear (PPE) for their safety in potentially hazardous environments.

  • Ability to lift and carry a maximum of 75 pounds.

  • Ability to walk and climb.

  • Occasional out-of-town traveling might be required, depending on the employer, project and location.
