You created a Skillit profile, so what’s next?
First off, nice work. Creating your Skillit profile is the first step toward getting connected with solid jobs and top contractors.
Here’s what happens next and how to make sure you’re getting the most out of Skillit.
Contractors might already be looking for you. A lot of the time, Skillit customers are actively searching the platform, which means you could already be showing up in searches right now. If your experience matches what they need, you might hear from us or our customers sooner than you think.
If you don’t hear back right away, don’t stress. Sometimes we don’t have an active search that matches your trade, location, or availability at that exact moment. That doesn’t mean you’re stuck. More opportunities open up all the time, so stay patient and stay ready.
Construction timelines change all the time. If you’ve worked construction, you already know how it goes. Projects get delayed, start dates shift, and crews change up fast. So even if a project gets pushed back, it doesn’t mean the job isn’t happening. It just means the timing changed a little.
Keep using other job tools too. Skillit has a lot of jobs, but we won’t have every job in every area. Keep using other job boards, your network, and any tools you already use. And if you apply anywhere else, feel free to use the resume Skillit builds for you. That’s your resume. Use it however you want.
Fill out your profile all the way. This part matters a lot. The more details you add, the easier it is for contractors to find you and the better your chances are of getting matched up fast. Add everything that applies to you, including all your craft experience, every skill you have, certifications and training, work history, and what kind of jobsites you’ve worked on (commercial, industrial, etc.). Even small details can help.
If you have questions, hit us up. If you’re not sure what to put on your profile or want help making it better, reach out to Skillit. We’re happy to help you clean it up and make sure it’s showing your experience the right way.
Skillit is expanding nationwide. Skillit is growing fast across the U.S., and in new areas we usually build up a strong group of craft workers first before opening that region up to all our contractor customers. So depending on your location, that can sometimes slow things down a bit at first. Just know opportunities are coming.
Keep your profile updated. Your profile isn’t one and done. Update it anytime something changes like you finish a job, your availability changes, you get a new cert, or you’re open to traveling or per diem work. Staying updated helps you get matched to the right work faster.
A few extra tips (that help you get hired faster). Respond when you can. If Skillit reaches out, replying quickly helps a lot. A lot of roles move fast and can fill up quick. Be ready for quick turnarounds. Some contractors need people on site ASAP. It helps to have your stuff ready like ID and paperwork, certifications, and work info and availability. Be clear about what you want. If you know what you’re looking for, tell us. It helps us match you faster. Things like what trade you want, your pay range, if you’ll travel, what kind of jobs you like, and your schedule and shift preference.
